A
good example of the telerobotic work class ROV is this Super Scorpio,
which has a depth rating of 2000 metres sea water and 60 Hp. With
4 thrusters and 2 manipulators, it represents the basic configuration
for its class.
This
configuration consists of buoyancy foam high on the vehicle and the
weighty components low to give a pendulum effect and a stable working
platform on which to carry its cameras, obstacle avoidance sonar,
manipulators and any robotic tooling systems the task requires.The
unit shown on the right is a more compact but equally powerful version
of the configuration in the volume of a 1.5 metre cube.
